American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)

On February 17th, President Obama signed The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) into law, appropriating $100 billion for education programs.  Funding must be spent by September 2011.  Education Secretary, Arne Duncan, has placed a special emphasis on education reform.  His four primary goals for reform include: 1) improve standards and assessments; 2) establish state data systems to track student progress; 3) improve teacher effectiveness and the equitable distribution of qualified teachers; and 4) improve the lowest performing schools.
